030830 – Short Lectures are Harder than Lengthy Ones!

I was invited again to give a lecture in the 13th Parseh IDA Congress and I proposed to give a talk on the topic of “Prevention of Complications id Immediate Dental Implants”.

Due to number of speakers and limited time given to all I too was given a 30 min to deliver my speech. Unlike the last time which I had the whole 2 hours to talk (which is considered lengthy speech and presentation) I found this very short however I did my best to highlight the points and show the audience these pointers via visual aids and my cases.

Thanks to documentation process we have in our clinics, I realized I have much options of cases to share however the limited time made me to be choosy and just select a few. After finishing my lectures, I realized the 30 minutes for such topic was definitely too short to be able to cover everything yet thankfully I was able to deliver the message.

When I went home, I remembered a story from President Woodrow Wilson, about how long would it take him to prepare for a speech;

In 1938 a humor column called “In Lighter Vein” of the “Christian Science Monitor” newspaper printed an instance with an attribution to Woodrow Wilson that closely matched the text of the 1918 citation:

The Longer the Quicker

“How long does it take you to prepare one of your speeches?” asked a friend of President Wilson.

“That depends on the length of the speech,” answered the President. “If it is a 10-minute speech, it takes me all of two weeks to prepare it; if it is a half hour speech, it takes me a week; if I can talk as long as I want to, it requires no preparation at all. I am ready now.”

this shows the lesser time we have in delivering a message, the more we should be prepared for it to be exact and precise. Like each word should be chosen properly and accurately to avoid any waste of time.
