It had been long since the last time I re-evaluated the clinic business system and its workflow and I always wanted to see if there can be any improvements. However, I have realized there are some staffs that may not be comfortable with the new changes.
The mentality of your staffs can have direct effect on your workflow, workstyle and work effect, in your profession. And it was in the past few months that I have realized and understood this by heart. – For that you can refer to my next blog entitled “Yours and Your Staffs’ Mindset, Two Separate Powerful Forces in Your Workplace!” – Hence and thankfully due to some circumstances couple of my staffs resigned and it gave me the opportunity to have ampule amount of time and space to think, re-evaluate and reset the system of one of our clinics.
To be able to reset your clinic business system, you need to change at least one (if not all) either your equipment, your services, your staffs, or yourself. And when I talk about clinic business system, I refer to the mechanics of your operating system and how you and your staffs deliver the services to get the optimum result out of your practice and patient’s satisfaction with economical aspect of it, are part of such business system.
It is advisable to different businesses to be able to evaluate their business models and business system time to time and if necessary, do the needed adjustment accordingly.
In our case I personally witnessed a year of decline when it came to diversity of our services and though we had the potential to grow even further in types of services we render, we became contented with the results and stayed fixed with such outcome without growing.
Though we are in healthcare services but we cannot deny that at the end such services are bind to a quality business model to survive and strive.
To do such I needed to answer three questions (that kept my mind preoccupied for almost a year);
- What are my objectives of the evaluation and end results?
- What are my clinics/services strengths and weaknesses?
- What are the recommended corrective actions?
After answering the questions above I had realized the importance of alignment of purpose and mentality of all staffs working in a health center, like our clinic. That alone has a very critical point in any one’s professional career (and even in a personal life).
Consider evaluating your services in a yearly basis and see the gaps and the room for improvements, specially those necessary. At some point like mine, there might be a need for a reset or at least major changes. Don’t hesitate and don’t fear because when you see the health of your healthcare business is failing, then a proper diagnosis and treatment id the only viable choice to survive and thrive.
At least 40% of all businesses will die in the next 10 years… if they don’t figure out how to change their entire company to accommodate new technologies.” — John Chambers, Cisco
