240110 – Why We Need Motivation Often

Today as I woke up at 5:00AM I started to morning rituals of mine which are reading and meditations before going to gym.

Lately I was asked to deliver some new courses and update some previous ones to be able to benefit more your dental graduates. One of the courses that I have thought of was Sinus Floor Elevation Course (this is an advance surgical procedure to prepare the patient to receive a better treatment in dental implants) which I used to deliver in a seminar form with limited practical part. After getting feedback from graduates of ours and other similar courses I saw a need for a certain updates and additional modules. This could help the participants be more satisfied with their course. Specially that with help of their feedbacks from other similar courses I know what parts those courses lack including ours.

Due to many urgent errands and tasks that I was facing lately I had postponed the curriculum update and it had been months since I have had decided to do so. To be honest the last 2 months was also procrastination since I had some trips and I knew the course wont be delivered since I am not around.

But today I was finishing the book of Debbie Ford “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” that I came to this parts of the last chapter:

“We’re in a constant state of wanting, of dreams that never get fulfilled, is the result of pretending we are on our way to somewhere when really we are stalled…. Psychologists call this magical thinking. We fool ourselves into thinking we will someday achieve our dreams without ever taking any practical steps.”

These sentences hit me hard to the point I decided to grab my stuffs and went to a coffeeshop where I ate my breakfast while updating the curriculum. After finishing it I was so happy and satisfied with the result that I cannot wait till our next course on the topic.

Yet what actually I personally learned was sometimes we need a little push and motivation to either keep going or take actions towards our goals and dreams. Sometimes we take things for granted (including our past successes and our skills and abilities) this may cause us to delay and procrastinate.

Therefore I see the necessity of learning and relearning about our progress and along the way some motivations and inspirations are needed. Just like what a phrase from a book affected me. Making me finished a long waited unfinished task, and also inspired me to do more and be more creative about my goals.

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily” – Zig Ziglar
