240809 – Sinus Lift, Another Live Surgery Demonstration!

Sharing our knowledge is the best experience one can have and I feel so blessed for being able to share mine via seminars, workshops and courses.

As my journey in my profession in the field of Periodontology and Dentistry, one of the challenges for educators is to be able to show the attendees how a technique or treatment can be done by demonstrating it on a live patient.

Every live patient and every technique can have its own difficulties and challenges, specially with some complications during the treatment.

This time, I was invited by a medical and dental educational institute named YAD, to give a 2-day workshop on Sinus Lift Elevation for dental implant placement with live surgery.

This treatment is done by implantologist for patients who do not have sufficient bone height in posterior missing teeth area that is going to be replaced by dental implants. How ever this treatment can have some complications during treatment including severe bleeding, and most of all sinus membrane perforation.

Now imagine you are giving lecture for some colleagues and even specialists who wanted to learn more about this treatment to be able to perform it in their own practice. And you have a patient who definitely is conscious about being watched over by some dentists. So personally, not only I have to be able to attend to the teachings, words and lectures during surgery but also about the videos and gadget used for live stream, my staffs and their patient management (which is difficult because you have to be able to show the procedures so there is no blocking the light, camera and action!), materials and their handling and preparations, the procedure itself but most of all the wellbeing of the patients and the attendees.

Therefore, this type of education can be one of the most challenging aspects of such workshops. And believe me it is totally different from teaching dental students.

Yet I am so happy, when I share my experiences, it feels like I am at my 100% energy and focus. The treatment was done perfectly and everyone even the companies who sponsored the tools and materials we happy with the result.

One thing personally love about Live Surgery Demonstrations is that, it helps me to develop my alertness and confidence, also it requires a different level of mindset. Therefore, I believe giving such level of lectures is not merely beneficial for attendees and even patients who trusted their lives in your hands but for myself that I have to make sure everything goes smoothly and positively. And in return I myself grow too. Hence, I consider such lectures one of the most sensitive yet profound in learning and teaching experience.

Eckhart Tolle: “To be aware of little, quiet things, you need to be quiet inside. A high degree of alertness is required. Be still. Look. Listen. Be present.”
